How To Use Blogging As A Backpack Business

Written by

There are probably 100's (if not 1000's) of ways to use a blog to create an online business you can run from anywhere in the world. If blogging and getting paid for it is something you want to do then this post is for you! This is a complete step-by-step overview of what you need to do to get started!

Ready?

Let's do this…

Step 1: Decide How You Want To Make Money!

Now before you get started you need to have some kind of idea of how you want to make money from a blog.

Are you going to…

Sell advertising?

Promote your own products and/or products you're an affiliate for?

Sell your own services?

Sell access to your content on your blog?

These are basically the only ways you can make money directly with a blog. Yes there are many ways to do each of them, but you need to know HOW you want to profit. You don't need to know with what or how exactly you're going to do it at this point you just need to make a choice.

I'm going to make money with my blog by ______________________. You have to fill in the blank!

Step 2: Decide On A Niche

Most people think this is the first thing you need to do. Nope… First you need to decide HOW you will make money, and then you can move on to WHO you're going to make that money from.

There are SO many niches out there and if you don't already have one in mind then you need to start doing some research. I have an entire video on how to pick a niche that you can watch by clicking here.

Note: I've also created a list of the most profitable Internet marketing/make money online niches you can see by clicking here and a list of the other most profitable niches that you can see by clicking here.

Once you have decided HOW you're going to make money from a blog, and WHO you're going to target then it's time for…

Step 3: Build Your Blog

Thanks to technology setting up your blog is super duper easy. It comes down to…

1. Getting a domain name

2. Getting hosting for your domain name

3. Picking a theme that meets your needs (A theme makes your blog look a certain way… design, and can also make it have other functions depending on what theme you pick.)

4. Installing the plugins you need to make your blog do what you want it today. (Plugins are “things” that you can add-on to your blog to make it do different things.)

I've done a complete video tutorial on how to install a blog from A-Z that you can see below.

Even if you know how to install a blog and all of that fun stuff I highly recommend that you watch that video because I drop a lot of juicy tips that you may not know about and will kick yourself for NOT knowing. πŸ™‚

Once your blog is all setup then it's time to…

Step 4: Start Blogging

Once your blog is all setup you need to start BLOGGING!

Now depending on how you're going to be using your blog to make money will depend on how you do this. Let's look at some examples to help you get started.

Example 1: You've created a blog in the personal finance niche and you're going to be promoting products as an affiliate. You need to look at the products you're going to be promoting find the benefits of them and start blogging about those benefits and pointing your readers to the products you're promoting.

Example 2: You've created a blog in the anti aging niche and you're going to be selling advertising space from your blog. You need to find the hottest topics for your niche and blog about them. This must be AMAZING content because you're going to need it to attract a lot of traffic if you're going to be selling advertising space. Your content is EVERYTHING with this model.

Example 3: You've created a blog in the how to budget niche and you're going to be selling your services where you help people plan their budgets for retirement, savings, investing, etc. You need to create content that shows you know what you're talking about so you're seen as an authority, and also lead people to buy your service from you.

And then you…

Step 5: Turn On The Traffic

The great thing about a blog is it has tons of built in “traffic getters“, but you can't stop there. You need to be using a lot of content marketing, Facebook advertising (and other sites Twitter and YouTube), along with other traffic tactics to get people to your blog and making you money.

We will talk a lot more about this later. πŸ™‚

Okay so this has been a general overview of using blogging as a backpack business. Meaning a business you can run from anywhere in the world. We're going to be talking more about these steps in the future, but now you have a general foundation to go and get started building this business for yourself.

Start with this template below and fill in the blanks to get started…

I'm going to make money with my blog by ______________________. I will be targeting the _________________ niche where I will provide them with great content that gets them to buy. I will use these traffic tactics to get traffic _________________________, __________________ , and ___________________________.

  • Half way there in my mind. Maybe not as far in reality.

I like the idea of using a blog..but it means Work and a great deal of planning.

What I tried to do on SkipperWorks info but never accomplished.

    Oh well.

    • Tried and never accomplished? Oh well? You can’t say that stuff and find success. Is it a lot of work? YEP! But it’s work that you can find yourself loving and doing from anywhere in the world! πŸ™‚

      • Have gone through Skipperworks .info and categorized my posts.. one of the problems was two and three categories on each post with a ton of “tags” so one step forward.

three new posts, and getting a little feed back.

Plan on introducing some of my products that I have bought from you that are set up and waiting. ….

Actually, have a problem with my optin…have profits theme and for some reason the PT optin doesn’t work, so I put a widget above it that works but looks strange.
Work for the night is coming…………etc.

    Glad to see you back.

I made my first dollar in Internet Marketing because of you. It was Adsense Newbie Videos.

I knew all the different parts of IM, but, I couldn’t stitch it all together. Those videos were an absolute blessing, they tied everything together at a micro level. You showed every button to push and every switch to flip.

I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for that boost. The confidence gained from watching my Adsense earnings begin, then grow, was priceless.

I hope you’re blessed with the personal peace you’ve sought.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
